Marchant Relations

Marchant Relations will chronicle the ancestors, descendants and relations of Henry John Marchant who was born September 6, 1844 Hadlow, Tonbridge, Kent, England and died April 30, 1937 at Cedar Cove, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The seven boys, two girls and one adopted daughter that he had with his wife, Esther Lavinia Weaver, spread over four Alabama counties in the years that followed. Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Jefferson and Chilton counties became homes and sources of spouses for this second generation. The second generation for the most part established large families to further increase the number of Marchant descendants.

Henry John, lovingly called Harry by many of his descendants, has been remembered in a wide range of stories including his youth in Kent, England, to his education at Homerton College in East London, to his trip to America, and through his years as a minister at Coaling Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. He was a pastor there for 40 years. Through the years, the stories seem to have been modified by time and the lack of being written down. Part of the content of this website will endeavor to capture these stories and clarify by available documentation the truth behind these stories.

The second element of this website will be to document the current descendants of Henry John Marchant. Our current database holds many of the descendants up through the year 2000. It is hoped that updates that are more recent will come from contacts by family members that are now being given access to this information. The data for this information has been passworded for security purposes and only names of the living are showing for current generations. Family members who register for a User Account, and are verified members of the family are given access to current generations.

The third element of this website will be to dig as deep as possible into the ancestors and Marchant relations. I will share DNA results that point to connections that go beyond the written documents that exist. This has yielded evidence of connections that go back into prehistory. Other Marchant families have been identified whose DNA matches according to current science.

It is hoped that future generations will benefit by this information and that the ties that bind this family as one will become strong from this knowledge.
